Coronavirus: at least eight confirmed cases in a monastery on Mount Athos

 

At least eight confirmed cases of coronavirus have been recorded in recent hours in a single monastery (Saint Paul) on Mount Athos, which has already been quarantined. A monk, according to reports, was taken for treatment outside Mount Athos as his condition was considered severe, while an EODY scale is heading towards Mount Athos as at least one case has been identified in another monastery (Chelandari), as well as one in a hermitage (Lakoskiti). The Holy Community has reduced the number of pilgrims to Mount Athos to a minimum and upon their departure from the ports of Ouranoupolis and Ierissos, visitors are subjected to thermometry.

EODY announced, yesterday Sunday, 170 new cases of the new virus in the country, of which 33 are associated with known epidemics and 12 were detected after checks at the gates of the country. The total number of cases is 15,142, of which 55.7% are men. At the same time, 78 of our fellow citizens are being treated by intubation. Their median age is 68. 24 (30.8%) are women and the rest are men. 70.5% of intubated patients have an underlying disease or are aged 70 and over.  177 patients were discharged from the ICU.
