Coronavirus: The changes in the functioning of supermarkets


The changes in the functioning of supermarkets and food stores in general, brings the “Map of health security and protection against Covid-19 infection” presented on Friday by the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalia and Minister of Digital Government Kyriakos P. This is a health security and protection card against coronaviruses.

The 74 regions of the country are “colored” according to the level of cases and the need for local emergency measures. Based on this map, each zone has the danger color determined by the number of cases and whether it is a source of transmission.This card is activated from Monday 12 October.

For levels 1 (“preparation”, green) and 2 (“surveillance”, yellow), the opening hours of food stores (supermarkets, mini markets, bakeries, butchers, fishmongers, etc.) , the schedule remains as is. In other words, they will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, while on Saturday, food supermarkets will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

However, level 3 (“enhanced surveillance”, orange) refers to the granting of extended hours, as was the case in our country during the period of the first wave of the epidemic. Also, at level 4 (“increased risk”, red), the operation of stores in the category is also scheduled for weekends.

At the same time, in the last two levels, special disinfection in wheelbarrows / wheeled baskets and without wheelbarrow becomes mandatory. At all levels, the following measures continue to apply: Mandatory use of the mask (personal and public) , 1 person per 10 m2 (4 persons 20-100 m2 and 1 person for additional 10 m2).

With regard to public markets , the following applies:

At level 1, there is a distance of 3 meters between the benches.

At level 2 should be 65% of sellers, with a distance of 3 meters between stalls and parallel stores.

At level 3, we have 50% of sales representatives with a distance of 3 meters between the stands and a parallel shopping operation.

At level 4, we have 50% of sellers with a distance of 3 meters between stalls, a parallel shopping operation and a restriction on the movements of traders (from a red zone).

The compulsory use of a mask by all applies at all levels.
