The rector of the University of Economics and Business of Athens Dimitris Bourantonis was attacked today Thursday in his office by a group of ten unidentified assailants. One of the attackers grabbed the rector Dimitris Bourantonis by the throat and started throwing verbal insults and threats at him while other members of the group smashed equipment and furniture but also precious memories linked to the story of the university according to our sources.
They also painted slogans on the walls, including the anarchist logo. University officials called an emergency meeting to discuss the assault which was far more violent than similar incidents in the past.
After the meeting, the Senate issued a statement stating that: “Such illegal, violent and undemocratic actions have no place in a public university. Academic freedom, respect for the life and integrity of individuals and democracy are fundamental and non-negotiable values of this university “.
