Greece: Ten academics from Greek universities sent letter to Prime Minister

The ten academics from Greek universities signed a letter calling for measures to strengthen security in higher education institutions in order to “safeguard university life and the functioning of universities” and this letter was addressed to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis , urging him to act. The reaction comes after a group of people walked into the office of the rector of University of economics and business in Athens and vandalized faculties and hurled a verbal insult at the rector.

In addition, they stress the need to strengthen the autonomy of institutions and their protection against political interference so that universities can fulfill their “natural role, which is to cultivate genuine and substantial excellence, with guaranteed independence of opinions and of research, which is the essence of academic freedom. ”
