Strong earthquake off Halkidiki

 

A strong earthquake of 5.2 on the Richter scale occurred in the early hours of Sunday off Halkidiki, disrupting residents of many parts of northern Greece.

According to the Geodynamic Institute, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the sea 22 kilometers southwest of Mount Athos.

The focal depth is estimated at 18 km.

Of note, the great earthquake was followed by aftershocks overnight, the largest of which was 3.9 Richter.
