Athens: opening of new shelters for unaccompanied refugees

In an effort to provide safer and more conducive environments for vulnerable unaccompanied minor refugees in Greece, the HOME project and Movement On The Ground have teamed up to open three new shelters in Athens. Each of the three homes will accommodate 16 unaccompanied children, aged 13 to 18. Hundreds of minors are expected to reside in the shelters for a period of three years.

The project is jointly supported by the Dutch and Greek governments as part of a program to strengthen the reception and guardianship capacities of unaccompanied minors in Greece. The Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security will provide financial support for the opening and operation of three shelters over the next three years.
