Unusual support, that of the Taliban in Afghanistan, has been received by Donald Trump in his fight for a second term in the White House, according to CBS News. “We hope to win the election and end the US military presence in Afghanistan,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a telephone interview with US News Network over the weekend.
The Taliban have also expressed concern about the health of the US president, after being infected with the new coronavirus. “When we heard that Trump was positive about Covid-19, we were worried about his health, but he seems to be improving,” another Taliban leader told CBS News.
Outgoing Republican presidential spokesman Tim Merto said yesterday that Trump’s campaign “rejects” Taliban support.
“The Taliban must know that the president will always protect American interests by whatever means necessary,” Merto told CBS News.
